- Rotor retaining screws hold the brake disc in place on the hub during wheel installation, preventing the rotor from shifting or falling off while you mount the wheel. Driving without them can cause rotor movement, vibration, uneven pad wear, and brake pedal pulsation. Always reinstall rotor screws during brake service — it takes seconds and saves headaches down the road.
- Installation: remove old rusted screw with Phillips or impact screwdriver, clean the threaded hole in hub with wire brush or thread chaser, apply anti-seize compound to new stainless steel screw threads, and hand-tighten until snug. Do not overtighten — these screws bear no load once the wheel and lug nuts are torqued.
